A true Pirate fan
by Terry Toole

#1 Pirate Fan, C.T. "Buddy Boo" Cullers
He may be the biggest Pirate fan ever.

While at one of the recent Miller County Pirate basketball games, I was taking photos near the Pirate stands, and C. T. "Buddy Boo" Cullers was there as he usually is.

"Mister Terry, Mister Terry, take my picture and put it in the paper," Buddy Boo said in between cheers for the Pirate players.

"You get out there and make a few goals, and I will," I answered back as the game was getting tight.

"Buddy Boo" doesn't shout too loud; in fact, about all he says is, "Come on, boys, or come on, girls."

During the basketball and football season, Buddy Boo will be seen at most of the Pirate games. He says he is getting a bit too old to walk and has to depend on someone picking him up and taking him home. He also goes to some of the out-of-town games if he can hitch a ride.

C.T. retired from his job at Miller County High School after 25 years as custodian. In his early life he worked with a landscape service in St. Petersburg, FL. He has always been proud of his job and his service to the schools and the community. His passion has been to help people.

Since his retirement, he continues to enjoy going to the school events and seeing his many friends at the games. He also enjoys going fishing when the weather permits.

"Buddy Boo" is a people person, and when not at sports events, he enjoys going to the Community Center eating with friends, and he takes meals to older people who cannot go to the center. He very seldom misses a field trip with his many friends at the Community Center outings. He is a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist Church where among his many duties he is an usher. He visits the local nursing home residents and brings them much joy.

C.T. is the second child of the late Sam Cullers and Adell Cowart Cullers. His sisters are Carolyn Bullard of Tallahassee, FL, Joycelyn Wells of Bainbridge, Patricia Clarke, Debbie Cullers and Linda Cullers, all of Colquitt. They had another brother, the late Alvin Cullers.

"Buddy Boo" was asked, "Where are your front teeth?"

He answered, "I don't really know, but I just wore them to funerals and weddings when I wanted to cry."

He said he did have one very special friend, Miller County High School Principal Ginger Webster.
