On January 18, six SGA Senior Beta Club students traveled with a Miller County High School group to the Senior Beta Club Convention in Atlanta. This event took place at the Hyatt-Regency in Peachtree Center.
While at the convention, these students participated in various academic competitions including science, math, social studies, creative writing, oral interpretation and spelling. They also took part in the academic quiz bowl competition.
During the general sessions, the Beta students listened to campaign speeches and later voted in a new slate of state officers. They were also entertained by various talent and skit shows. Also, these students listened to motivational speakers who challenged them to aspire to set and persevere to reach goals that lead to success.
A fun time was had by all in attendance, especially considering it snowed while they were in Atlanta. The group celebrated the birthdays of Cody Buckhalter and Lane Hudson on Saturday night at Hard Rock Cafe.
Traveling with the Beta students from SGA were sponsor, Jan Calhoun, and chaperone, Susan Buckhalter.
"We would like to say thank you to the Miller County sponsors, Mrs. Sherry Calhoun and Mrs. Jennifer Jarvis, who invited us to travel with their group to Atlanta," said the SGA sponsor.
