Mason twins celebrate 94 years
by Terry Toole

Mrs. Uva Mason celebrates 94th birthday
The Mason twins, Uva and Una, celebrated their 94th birthdays on Friday, December 28, 2007.

Due to illness, Una wasn't going to be able to attend the party that was to be given in their honor on Saturday, December 29; therefore, Uva celebrated with her at Miller Nursing Home on their birthday.

Then on Saturday, Uva was honored with a Christmas bingo party at her home where she resides with her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Betty Jo Toole.

Even though the party wasn't the same as in the past, everyone seemed to enjoy the event. Their 90-year-old brother, Talmadge was also unable to attend because of illness.

Hosting the gala event with Betty Jo was Uva's other daughter, Mealie Webb of Morrow.

After singing happy birthday and enjoying cake, along with other refreshments, the members of the Senior Center Bingo group and several relatives enjoyed an afternoon of Christmas Bingo.

Those enjoying the day of celebration were Nan DeFlor, Lydia Sheffield,Josie Sheffield, Martha Hardy, Ann Wade, Dixie Harrell, Wadene Calhoun, Mary Ethel Johnson, Dorothy Milliner, Larry Tiner, Ginger Black, Virginia Phillips, Beverly Richardson,

Other family members who enjoyed the event were Terry Toole and David Webb, sons- in-law, and granddaughters, Tammy Richardson and Donna Toole. Mason Toole, greatgrandson of Ms. Uva, also enjoyed playing bingo with the honoree and guests.

"It was really hard getting Uva away from her daily afternoon job at the Liberal to celebrate her big day. She feels so responsible each week for her job," stated her son-inlaw, Terry. "I wish I had more Uvas," he laughed.

Ms. Uva is already looking forward to her 95th birthday and hopes that her twin and brother will be able to celebrate with her at the next bingo party.

The other employees at the Liberal also hope she stays around another several years. The job she does is not really one of their favorites, and Uva is glad of that.
