2007 Middle School Basketball Highlights

Girls' Highlights

The Miller County Middle School boys and girls played some hard ball during their season of basketball. In their first game, our young teams traveled over to Donalsonville to play against the young braves and squaws. The girls' game was won by the Seminole Lady Indians with the close score of 29-26. The top for Miller County was Whitney Morgan with nine points, followed by Krystal Stovall with seven points, Mallory Diamond assisted with four points. Ulbrika Daniels, Asia Goss, and Antrenette Roseborough each tacked on two points. Top scorer for Seminole Middle School team was Aleah Clark with eight points.

Then on November 3, 2007, our Middle School Basketball teams hosted the Pelham Hornets Middle School teams. The young Lady Pirates dominated the young Lady Hornets with the score of 41-10. Krystal Stovall was the top scorer for Miller County. Antrenette Roseborough assisted with nine points while Esther Butler followed with six points. Jasmine Crankfield and Asia Goss each tacked on four points, Ulbrika Daniels and Whitney Morgan each added three points, and Antrenette Green assisted with two points. Top scorer for the Lady Hornets was Shay Reese with four points. A great defensive game was played by the Lady Pirates, and it showed on the court as well as on the scoreboard.

On November 10, the Miller County Middle School hosted the Baker County Lady Bears. MCMS Lady Pirates won 36-17 with Krystal Stovall leading with a total of 14 points. Mallory Diamond assisted with six points while Esther Butler added four points. Asia Goss tacked on three points, and Ulbrika Daniels and Britney Morgan each added two points. Top scorer for the Baker County Lady Bears was J. Hawkins with seven points.

On November 12, our young Lady Pirates were guests over in Early County. Esther Butler was the top scorer for MCMS with 11 points, followed by Krystal Stovall with 10 points. Mallory Diamond hit six points while Antrenette Roseborough hit a three pointer in the first quarter and stepped up in the third quarter hitting two points when points were crucial for the Lady Pirates. Top scorer for ECMS was A. Tinson with seven points. The final score was MCMS 34 to ECMS 26.

The game against the Baker County Lady Bears on November 17 and 18 was a win for our girls. In the girls' game, MCMS was won 42-20. Antrentette Rosborough was the top scorer with 15 points, followed by Krystal Stovall with 12 points.

On November 29, the Miller County Middle School girls' basketball team hosted the Seminole County Middle School Lady Indians in a very close game, but unfortunately the young Lady Indians defeated the young Lady Pirates by two points, 28-26. Antrenette Roseborough was the top scorer for Miller County with 15 points, and K. Brown was the top scorer for Seminole with nine points.

In a game against the Bainbridge Lady Eagles, MCMS Lady Pirates won by fivewith the final score of 38-33. Krystal Stovall was the top scorer with 10 points while Brianna Wade was the leader in points for the Lady Eagles with 36 points. Juwan Jones was the top scorer with 10 points followed by Nick Price's nine points. Lee Glaze was the top scorer for Hutto with 16 points.

On December 6, Coach Melanie Diamond Williams traveled over to Bainbridge to play against the Lady Eagles in another hard playing game of basketball. Several of the Lady Pirates fouled out which made it hard on our girls. Top scorer for the Lady Eagles was Takie Crankfield with 17 points, and Antrenette Roseborough was the top scorer for MCMS with 10 points. The Lady Eagles won over the Lady Pirates, 38-33.

In the Lady Pirates final game of the season, they defeated the Pelham Lady Hornets 39-22. Mallory Diamond and Antrenette Roseborough each scored 15 points, followed by Jasmine Crankfield with seven points. Top scorer for the Lady Hornets was D. Thomas. The Miller County Middle School Girls' Basketball Team finished 7-3 in the season under the coaching ability of Melanie Diamond Williams.

Boys' Highlights

On November 1, the Miller County Middle School Boys' Team traveled over to Seminole County to face their middle school Indians. Our boys won with the final score of 37-23. Jeremy Stevens was the top scorer for the young Pirates with 14 points while Chris Brown of the Indians scored 14 points as their top scorer. Three pointers were hit by Caleb Whitaker (1), Lamar Perkins (2), and Stevens hitting two as well. The young Pirates dominated all four quarters during the game.

Then on November 3, our young Pirates hosted the middle school Pelham Hornets. It was a great game played from both sides of the court, but the young Hornets pulled off a three point lead to win the game, 38-35. Jacoby Jones was the top scorer for Miller County with 16 points while Xavier Almond was the top scorer for the Hornets with 11 points.

Next the young Pirates hosted the Early County Middle School at the Pirates' Gymnasium on November 5. Early County was quick to get a good lead against our boys in the first quarter 17-5, but in the second quarter, our boys trailed only by seven points. Top scorers for Miller were Jeremy Stevens with 16 points and Jacoby Jones with 14 points. Top scorers for the young Bobcats were M. Ogden with 14 points, J. Taylor with 13 points and D. McCoy with 12 points. The final score ended ECMS 56 to MCMS 46.

On November 10, the MCMS Boys' Basketball team hosted the Baker County Middle School Boys' Team. Baker County has come a long way, and it is great to see Newton rebuilding their school system and athletic department. Top scorers for MCMS were T. Barber with 14 points, Lamar Perkins with 13 points, Jeremy Stevens with 12 points, and Jacoby Jones with 11 points. Top scorer for Baker County Middle was D. Anderson with a total of 20 points. The game score ended 53-40.

Then on November 12, our MCMS traveled over to Blakely to play the ECMS Bobcats. The young Bobcats dominated the young Pirates throughout the entire game. The young Pirates' top scorers were T. Barber with 15 points and Jeremy Stevens with 11 points, and D. McCoy was the top scorer again for ECMS with 10 points. The young Bobcats defeated the young Pirates, 43-33.

Next, the Baker County Middle School hosted the Miller County Middle School Boys' Team in a very close game with the Bears winning by one. Again, Jeremy Stevens was the top scorer for the Pirates with 18 points while D. Anderson of Baker County was the top scorer for the BCMS. The final score ended 38-37 in Bears' favor.

In this next game, our boys hosted the Seminole County Middle School, and this game went into overtime with the Pirates defeating the Indians, 37-34. Jacoby Jones was the top scorer for the Pirates with 14 points while Michael Barber was the top scorer for the Indians with 10 points. It was a great game played by both teams.

The Miller County Middle School Boys' Basketball Team played three more games before their season came to an end with five wins and six losses. As Pirate fans can tell, we do have some excellent athletic ability in our school system. Keep your grades up and focus on your homework and class work, respect your teachers and our administration and the participation in the athletic program will be there for you to join and play basketball, football, tennis, golf, cheerleading, and baseball. Pirate fans are looking forward to seeing you play varsity!
