Susan Elizabeth Shingler Roland Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Shingler Roland, age 64, of Colquitt, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2007, at her residence. Memorial services were held at Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, Sunday, December 30, at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kirk Loyless and Rev. Kent Barwick officiating. Elizabeth was born in Seminole County on October 15, 1943, to the late Franklin Sinclair Shingler, Jr. and the late Jenny F. Williams Shingler. She graduated from Miller County High School, where she was an All State basketball player and attended Valdosta State College before receiving her RN degree from Albany Jr. College. She also held a nursing home administrator degree. She served as the director of nursing at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge, GA, for approximately 10 years. Elizabeth was the owner and operator of Great Gran's Personal Care Home in Donalsonville for 20 years. Great Gran's was named in honor of Elizabeth's paternal grandmother, Elma Rowe Shingler, who was always called "Great Gran." She also served as a member of the board of the Personal Care Home Association of Georgia. Elizabeth was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville, where she was a member of the Workers Guild. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother as well as a compassionate caregiver for many families all over the Southwest Georgia area. Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 46 years, Jerry G. Roland of Colquitt; a daughter, Anna Roland (Marshall) Willis Tallahassee, FL; two sons, Lance G. Roland and Cleve G.(Mandy) Roland of Colquitt; a brother, F. Sinclair (Evelyn) Shingler, III of Donalsonville; and a sister, Virginia "Ginger"(Gerald) Conner of Fulton, MS; fivegrandchildren, Christopher, John, and Matt Willis of Tallahassee, FLand Isaiah and Benjamin Roland of Colquitt; and many other relatives. Evans Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. |
