We've/I've had two birthdays in the past few days. Our first birthday was being in the newspaper business for 111 years. That was last week's edition. My second birthday was Sunday, December 21, when according to the records, I attained the ripe old age of 73. More ... You never know where a good tip is going to turn up. Recently, a friend sent along some words of advice from the world of music. The author of these tips is the late, great jazz piano player Thelonious Monk. My family at Thanksgiving has a tradition of holding hands in a circle and naming what we're thankful for. When my son was little, he'd be thankful for some new toy or game, but occasionally he'd drift into a cloud of child wisdom and say, "I'm thankful for dirt." Or algae. Or that all the dinosaurs are dead. More ... It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Since I've been in my second childhood, and have no young folks living with me, I don't do much decorating. But I love to see the decorations at other people's homes. I have been asked to bake some potato pies. That is one of our family's specialities. Everyone loves them. More ...
