Festival of Southern Culture Saturday
Some last year's entertainers get the results of their winnings.This years winners will receive $3750 in payment for their talents. Colquitt is the place you want to be this Saturday, November 8, as we come together to salute and pay tribute to the great history of our area and a salute to all the wonderful blending of all heritages.
The Festival of Southern Culture will take place on the courthouse lawn and around the square and down Main Street beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The day will be filled with music, good food, bingo and just good old - fashioned fun.
The talent show will kick off the day's festivities with some of the area's most talent artists performing throughout the day. $3,750 in cash will be given to the top five in the contest, with first place walk- ing away with $1250.00. Second place winner will receive $1000, third place $750, fourth place $500 and fifth place $250. If you haven't entered you still have time to do so
At 11:30 a.m., the streets of Colquitt will be adorned with antique cars that will be on display throughout the day for your enjoyment. Also for your enjoyment, antique tractors will be on display next to Cotton Hall.
Some of last year's cooks getting ready And while you're enjoying the day's festivities, the aroma in the air will make your mouth water as you can enjoy some of the best homemade cooking around. Some of Colquitt's finest cooks will be entering the Spring Creek Smoke-Off (BBQ competition). We will see who has the best chicken, ribs, or butt, and cash prizes will be awarded in all three categories. This will take place on Main Street in the Fire Department parking lot.
The Festival of Southern Culture is reminiscent of the old fashion country fairs. This will take place in the fire station conference room, also located on Main Street. You will be able to see local jams and jellies, pickled products, canned vegetables, and baked goods.
You may want to pull out your favorite peanut recipe and enter the peanut recipe contest. Who knows -- you just might be the winner. The overall winner will receive $100 Colquitt Cash.
The quilt display will be under the tent at the Tarrer Inn.
The first place winner in each category will receive Colquitt Cash. Second and third will be awarded ribbons.
There will also be a greens, beans, and cornbread showdown.
If you like Bingo, there will be a tent for this beginning at 10:00 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. until on the East side of the Courthouse. $500 in Colquitt Bucks will be given away to the winners - so come on out and enjoy the fun.
Story telling collections will be taking place on the west side of the square. Come tell you favorite story to be recorded history.
For the children, there will be inflatables for them to enjoy. They will be on the east side of the courthouse square.
Along with all the festivities and entertainment, the merchants of Colquitt will be open for your shopping convenience. Many of the stores will be having sidewalk sales and will offer sales that you don't want to miss.
