Ebony Dots & Dashes
The weekend went well. I went to early services on Sunday morning at Live Oak A.M.E. Church. Rev. Fred Moore was the speaker. He did a good job opening up the scriptures to an almost full house.
Went to morning services at 11 o'clock in Damascus to the church where I was a member when the family lived in Early County. They had Family and Friends Day. The Rev. Bagley from Albany was the speaker; he preached a beautiful sermon from Joshua 24:14-16, decision time. The attendance was very good, and they fed the folks. I had a chance to see my cousin from Bainbridge, Mr. H. K. Benton. It had been some time since I had seen him. But he, like myself doesn't travel as much as we used to. His two youngest daughters were home for homecoming at Albany State last week. So they brought their group to church.
The girls, Mrs. Alva Fuller, lives in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Ms. Thelma Benton, lives in Tampa, Florida. The children of my cousin, H.K., are good to their dad. It does my heart good to know children love their parents. They not only say it; they show it.
My granddaughter, Vickie Dunell, went to St. Mary last Sunday to Family and Friends Day. She had to fulfill a promise she had made. So I hitched a ride to church with Ms. Gloria Roberts and her granddaughter, Janae.
Rev. Samuel Anderson lost one of his sisters last week. This is the second sister that the Lord has called from that family this year. It was just five months since one of his sisters passed. But God gives life and when the time comes to go, he takes what is His, blessed be the name of the Lord.
Checked on my friend, Mrs. Annie P. Johnson, after I came home from church. She was doing O.K.
Heard from Reverend L.E. Moore. He is still in Albany, but doing fine.
Birthday wishes go to Antavious Grant on Oct. 17; Aaron Fillingame, Oct, 23; Mr. G.W. Grant Jr., Oct. 21; and Kathy Lane, Oct. 18.
I had a big surprise Sunday. One of my cousin's sons, Danny Childs, was at church. It was a blessing to see him. It had been a while. But that guy is cute for a man.
Mrs. Clara Toliver is not feeling the best. She is able to be up, but not on the good foot.
Mrs. Annie P. Johnson was feeling good when I called her Sunday. We had a real old time gab fest, remembering days long past, when her husband, the late Rev. Nathaniel Johnson, was alive. She is still house bound except visits to the doctor.
