SGA teachers begin 50th year teaching
      The 2008-2009 school year marks the 50th year in teaching for Southwest Georgia Academy teachers, Miss Henrinel Middleton (left) and Mrs. Anngene Gibbs (right). Miss Middleton began her career at Damascus High School in 1958, while Mrs. Gibbs began hers at Albany Junior High School the same year.

Pine Seedling Pageant held
      The Decatur County Pine Seedling Pageant was held on Saturday, August 9, 2008, in Whigham. Courtney Brownlee of Colquitt was crowned Miss Decatur County Pine Seedling, and Harley Shiver of Colquitt was crowned Little Miss Decatur County Pine Seedling.

Governor Removes Clayton County School Board Members
      ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue has issued an Executive Order removing four members of the Clayton County School Board, Michelle Strong, Louise Baines-Hunter, Yolonda Everett and Sandra Scott, who were found by State Administrative Hearing Judge Michael Malihi to have violated their duties under state law.

47th Annual Kirkland Family reunion held
      On August 10, 2008, the descendants of William Gilbert and Callie Spooner Kirkland gathered together once again for the 47th consecutive year. Our first reunion was held in 1961. We had a good time looking at old pictures from "back then." Amazing were the hairstyle changes over the years.
