Lady Pirates' Softball highlights
The Miller County Lady Pirates of 2008 under the coaching ability of Head Coach Renza Israel and assisting him this year is a former Lady Pirate Coach Joni Cook Williams, have begun their season with three wins. On Tuesday, August 19, our girls traveled to Calhoun County to face the Lady Cougars with Brooke Widner going the distance on the mound for Miller County. In the top of the first, the Lady Pirates quickly jumped out in front with four runs. Calhoun County answered back with three runs. The Lady Pirates held the lead all throughout the game with the final score of 15- 6. Widner went 1 out 3, Olivia Andrews 2 out of 3, Jamie Cowart 1 for 2, Jenna Phillips 1 for 2, Brittney Miller 1 for 4, Isabella Lawson 2 for 5, Sabrina 1 for 4, Jalissa Williams 3 for 5, Lacey Philliips 3 for 5, and Amber Espinoza went 2 out of 4.
Then on Thursday and Friday, our girls traveled over to Baconton, Georgia to participate in Baconton's Invitational Tournament. Again our girls came away with wins. In the first game, Miller County won 5-2, and in the second game the score was 4-1.
The next seven games will be held here in Colquitt at the Spring Creek Recreational Park. Our girls will be facing teams: Randolph Clay (2), Terrell County, Seminole County, Baconton Charter, Pelham, and Calhoun County. The coaches as well as the team look forward to seeing a packed park to watch these games. What is that saying about Colquitt? Pull for Colquitt or Pull Out!
