Ebony Dots & Dashes
Last Friday August 15th, I was another year older. I got up early and after I ate my breakfast I went to see my friend Mrs. Annie P. Johnson. That was one of my things to do that day. Came back home before the sun got too hot, because since I've been this young gal, the sun and I are not on the best of terms. I cannot stay out in it as before. But thanks be to God I can still get out once in a while.
Bethel M.B. Church celebrated their family and friends day last Sunday. Rev. Ronald Nash was the speaker for the day. He is the brother of Mrs. Shirley Wolfe. He was awesome. He and his family were a wonderful addition to the service. Friends and family were in good attendance.
Rev. L. E. Moore is at home after a stay in Tallahassee Hospital. His wife reported on Sunday that he was much improved and is at home now.
I want to say thank you to all of the folks who thought about me on my 93rd Birthday. The calls were so touching and the cards will be cherished for years to come. As long as I'm alive.
Birthdays: Krystal Leonard, August 22; Gerald A. Hawkins, August 27; Sherita Miller, August 27
Mrs. Geraldine Warren spent some time in Miller County Hospital. Hope she is better now.
Mrs. Clara Toliver missed church on last Sunday. She wasn't feeling too good.
Happy Birthday to Clint Morrell on August 19. He is my neighbor. Hope he has many more.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvest Williams flew to Newsport News, VA last week along with Maruis and Antonio Brunson. They visited Ft. Monroe where their dad, SFC Dwight Brunson is stationed. Ft. Monroe is an honorable and clean base that makes living seem simple. The home of the general of the base looks like a small White House.
Most of their nights was spent watching old movies which Dwight says he collected while at Iraq, but on Friday they drove over to Norfolk Naval Base passing thru the three miles tunnel to Norfolk, Virginia. They went on a tour of the Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier. They were allowed to take pictures on the inside of the carrier, but not the outside. It was amazing and unbelievable to stand where the plane lifts off from, and did Harvest have a bunch of questions for the tour guide. The aircraft carrier looks like tons of steel on water and makes us proud to be an American and think about all our heros that serves this country.
They returned to Atlanta on Saturday with broken hearts leaving Marquis and Antonio for school in Virginia. It will not be the same at 540 Helms Rd., but thank you Lord for a safe trip.
