He received an award for his excellent service to the community for his role in apprehending two suspects involved in burglarizing Red's Liquor Store on East Main Street.

Officer Medina responded to an alarm at Red's Liquor Store on June 23, 2008. Upon arrival, he made contact with a female subject who was standing beside the roadway. Officer Medina started questioning the female and learned she was with her boyfriend.

Officer Medina then asked his location and the female pointed towards the store. Officer Medina witnessed evidence protruding from the suspect's clothing and immediately had the offender on the ground. Officer Medina then secured both subjects and called for the on-call investigator.

During the council meeting, Mayor Jerry Chapman presented Officer Medina with a "Mayor's Award of Commendation" for his quick response and for protecting the community. All city council members were present for this ceremony and thanked Officer Medina for a job well done.

In apprehending these subjects, the Colquitt Police Department was able to return approximately $9,000 in currency back to Mrs. Glenda Duke, owner of Red's Liquor Store for safe keeping.

Officer Medina stated "it all came from experience and training, I was just doing what I was taught." Officer Medina also thanked the mayor and council for this award.
