First workers at Georgia's Kia plant hired

from Georgia Press Clips

Twenty-eight people have been hired from a pool of 43,000 applicants; by the end of the year, there will be 700 employees working at the car plant. When production ramps up, that number will go to 1,200; when full production is reached, at least 2,500 will be working at Kia.

Of the 28 hourly workers, "70 percent of them are from Georgia and about 30 percent are from Alabama, but they are all from this area," said Randy Jackson, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia Director of Human Resources and Administration. "They are from LaGrange, West Point, Pine Mountain, Columbus." Hourly workers are expected to make more than $50,000 per year. Source: Columbus Ledger-Enquirer
