Graveside funeral services for Ms. Delores Tipton Bowen, age 78, of Decatur County were held Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Kent Barwick officiating. Her sons served as pallbearers.
Ms. Bowen was born April 6, 1930, in Decatur County to the late Thomas Jefferson and Myrtle Emanuel Tipton. She was a homemaker and had worked as a teacher's aide at Jones-Wheat Elementary School. She loved doing genealogy, sewing, and her family. She was of the Methodist faith. Ms. Bowen passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Miller County Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters; Marsha Gail Bowen (Scott) Johnson of Colquitt and Sally J. Bowen (Curtis) Yarlott of Ashland, Montana; seven sons; Barry Hall (Beth) Bowen of Montgomery, AL, Edgar Ted (Bridgett) Bowen of Gardner, Montana, David Hillard (Sandy) Bowen of Bainbridge, Samuel Wade Bowen of Bainbridge, Robert Kent (Sherry) Bowen of Rome, Dennis Ray (Frankie) Bowen of Climax and John Stephen Bowen of South Carolina; one sister; Elaine Tipton Duke of Bainbridge; one brother; Benjamin Emanuel Tipton of Alabama; 31 Grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Cleveland Tipton, William Ronald Tipton, and Thomas Jefferson Tipton Jr., and one grandchild, Summer Alanis Yarlott.
Cox Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
