They are crawling
Larry King shows the large rattler he just killed. They usually don't start moving too much until the farmers go into the fields to gather the crops, but this was the exception.
Larry King was on his way home when he saw someone out of their vehicle, and about the time he got there, he saw this very large snake. The man pulled out his gun and emptied it toward the snake. He didn't hit the snake, so King jumped out of his truck with a big stick. He hit the snake on the head, killing it.
Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes are shy and secretive. They spend most of their time in underground burrows or in deep cover. They are most active in the mornings, when the temperatures are between 65F and 75F degrees. Higher temperatures will cause the snakes to seek out deep cover.
When he brought the large diamondback rattlesnake by the Liberal for a photo shoot, he reached into the back of the truck to bring the snake out, and it was slithering around. King, very carefully grabbed the larger rattler back of the head dragging him out.
"They will wiggle around until sundown," King stated. "I hate I killed him. I should have caught him live and taken him to the Eversons. They sell live snakes," he continued. "The rattler never did go into a coil, but he was scared and mad after being shot at several times and then being beat on the head."
