Early County Traffic Alert: Georgia DOT Announces Detour on U.S. 27 SR 1

BLAKELY - Georgia DOT announces that a traffic shift and detour on US27/SR- 1Business and a traffic shift on US27/SR1 bypass just south of Blakely is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, weather permitting.

At that time, US27/SR1Bus will be temporarily detoured. Motorist should follow the marked detour route signs. Also, traffic on US27/SR1 Bypass will be shifted to the newly constructed lanes north of Club Dr., and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph to allow the contractor to continue into the next phase of construction. Motorists traveling on this section of US27/ SR1 should slow down, be alert and pay special attention to all work zone signs, pavement markings, traffic control devices and changing traffic patterns.

The U.S.27 SR1 project in Early County includes 7.983 miles of widening and reconstruction for additional lane re-alignment. Grading, drainage, base and plant mix resurfacing will begin South of CR279 Damascus Hilton RD and extends north of the old Blakely bypass; the project also includes the construction of two bridges and approaches over Blue Creek.

Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather.
