It was held this year at the Marriott Bay Point Resort at Panama City, Florida.

The press association members not only got to hear some of the best journalists and state leaders speak on their particular fields of expertise, they got to see old friends and make new ones that are in the business of newspapers in this state.

I must admit that the main reason for "ye scribe" and his "first wife" attending was to support our friends to the north, President Judy Fleming of the Early County News.

Judy Fleming, Early County News general manager, completed her tenure as president of the Georgia Press Association this past weekend at the Baypoint Resort in Panama City Beach, FL. It was a very good year for Georgia newspapers. Many of the sessions were how daily and weekly newspapers will continue to be the source for local, state and national news in a new world of information.

Along with all the meetings on technology and improvements that could be made in this industry, there was a night of fun with live and silent auctions that brought in over $25,000.00 to be used for the Georgia Press Educational Foundation (GPEF). All proceeds benefit GPEF with scholarships and internships to deserving journalism students.

Georgia President Judy Fleming passed the president's gavel to Buff Leavy, president of the Brunswick News, at Saturday's business meeting at the close of the annual convention.

President Leavy present Fleming with a plaque and gift for her outstanding leadership in the past year.

Other officerswho will be serving with Leavy during the coming year include vice president Laura Geiger, The Herald-Gazette, Barnesville and secretary-treasurer Terry Smith, of the Marietta Daily Journal.
