SGA has busy week of basketball The SGA basketball teams had a busy week of basketball last week. Ga. Christian School came to Damascus Monday, December 10th. The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Generals 48-39 but the Warriors lost a close one, 41-36. Kristi Williams dominated the game for the Lady Warriors. Williams poured in a game and season high 27 points in leading SGA to victory. The Lady Warriors led 13-7 after one quarter and 29-17 at the half. The Lady Generals hit a few 3-pointers in a comeback attempt in the 4th quarter but never really threatened the Lady Warriors lead. Ashley Tedder scored 8 points, Kyndal Andrews 7, Morgan Hilton 4, and Ansley Stewart 2 points. The boys' game was a close one from start to finish. The teams were tied after one quarter but GCS took a 17-12 lead into halftime. The Warriors outscored GCS 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to take the lead 26-25. GCS hit their free throws in the final quarter outscoring SGA 16-10 to take the win. Michael Fincher led the Warrior scoring with 9 points. Drew Bridges and Jason Dean added 6, Miles Lee 5, Blake Shepard 4, Danny Doster and Andrew Stone 3 points each. On Tuesday, the 11th, SGA traveled to Dawson for a rematch with Terrell Academy. SGA split with Terrell with the Lady Warriors falling 61-47 and the Warriors pulling out an exciting victory, 37-31. The Lady Warriors had a disastrous first quarter against a very strong Lady Eagle team falling behind 17-3. The Lady Warriors got their offense on track scoring 12 second quarter points and 16 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters, but it was not enough to overcome the first quarter deficit.Kristi Williams had another big night for the Lady Warriors scoring 22 points. Ashley Tedder was also in double figures with 10 points. Kyndal Andrews added 6, Brooke Hornsby 3, Jodi Harris, Ansley Stewart, and Morgan Hilton 2 points each. In the boys' game, the Warriors got a measure of revenge against Terrell and former coach Rundy Foster for an earlier 4 9 - 4 1 loss in Damascus. SGA jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead and held a 19-18 lead at the half. Danny Doster played a great game inside for the Warriors and scored 8 third quarter points to help SGA to a 28-23 third quarter lead. Drew Bridges hit a big 3-pointer and Michael Fincher nailed 3-of-4 free throws late in the 4th quarter as SGA held on to win 37-31.Danny Doster led the Warriors in scoring with 10 points. Michael Fincher had 8, Drew Bridges 6, Miles Lee 5, Jason Arnold 3, Jason Dean and Andrew Stone 2 each, Blake Shepard 1 point. On Friday, December 14, Deerfield-Windsor School from Albany came to Damascus. It is hard enough when you play a team in a higher classificationlike DWS, but when their teams are the top ranked teams in the state, you just don't have much of a chance. DWS won both games easily over SGA. The Lady Knights won 72-31 and the Knights won 84-27. Saturday, December 15th, SGA traveled to Cordele to play Crisp Academy. Crisp swept SGA with the Lady Wildcats defeating the Lady Warriors 54-38 and the Wildcats defeating the Warriors 45-40. The girls' game was the worst officiated basketball game I have seen this year. When the coaches of both teams get technical fouls called on them for arguing with the refs, it is obvious there are terrible calls being made. The refs jumped on the Lady Warriors early slapping Kristi Williams with 2 bogus fouls within the first minute of play. They did not let up until the whole team was in foul trouble. The Lady Warriors played hard though and led 12-9 after 1 quarter and trailed only 20-19 at the half. Crisp outscored what was in essence the Lady Warrior B-team 17-10 in the 3rd quarter and held on in the 4th quarter to win. Kyndal Andrews led the Lady Warriors scoring with 17 points. Kristi Williams had 8, Ashley Tedder 5, Morgan Hilton 4, Jodi Harris and Ansley Stewart 2 each. The boys' game was another close game that the Warriors came up just short in. SGA trailed 8-7 after one quarter and 22-21 at the half. Crisp built their biggest lead of the game in the 3rd quarter by outscoring SGA 15-10 to lead 37-31. SGA had chances to win the game but could not convert from the foul line and missed several easy shots and lost 45-40. Miles Lee led the Warriors scoring with 12 points. Drew Bridges and Jason Dean had 9 each, Michael Fincher 4, Danny Doster, Blake Shepard, and Jamie Barton 2 each. SGA travels to Westwood Monday night and then hosts Sherwood Tuesday night in Damascus before taking off for the Christmas Holidays. GO WARRIORS! |
