Courthouse Committee Receives Challenge Grant The committee to raise funds for a new courthouse has received a Challenge Grant of one million dollars toward the goal of 2 million over the next two years. This Challenge grant will have to be matched by donations and fund-raising efforts by interested citizens. The committee recognizes that the goal of a new courthouse is a long term goal. The present courthouse has been repaired and will last for a few more years, but the space is becoming more cramped every day. Important records are in danger of being ruined. Employees work under unhealthy conditions of moisture and mold. The beautiful Victorian Courthouse which graced our town for the first three-quarters of the 20th Century has been sorely missed. Visitors who come to Colquitt always comment that we have a beautiful town but ask the question, "What happened to your Courthouse?" The committee asks interested people to make a year-end donation which is tax deductible or if you have made a pledge, please send your checks to the Chamber of Commerce. Let's meet the Challenge. Let's build a courthouse that our children and grandchildren can be proud of for the next 100 years. |
