The Miller County Lady Pirates and Pirates opened their season on the road over in Pelham. In the girls' game, our Lady Pirates overcame a poor free throw shooting night to pull ahead of the Pelham Lady Hornets in the fourth quarter with a final score of 51-46. The Lady Pirates were down by six going into the start of the fourth quarter, but Shay Crankfield stepped it up by scoring 15 of her game high 22 points. Freshman Salina Diamond poured on 12 of her 17 points in the final quarter to help in staging a terrific comeback. Salina's oldest sister, Sukena, picked it up on the defensive end and helped in shutting down Pelham's offense. She finished the evening with 5 points as well as center Christy Daniels. Katrina Crankfield chipped in two points and dished out several assists. Senior, Talisha Calloway also helped the Lady Pirates by playing some tenacious defense as well as helping to calm down the offense in the final moments of the game. Miller County's domination on the board, allowed the team to pull out the first win. Shay Crankfield (11), Christy Daniels (12), and Salina Diamond (11) finished with 33 of the team's 38 total rebounds.

In the second game of the night, the Miller County Pirates' win over the Pelham Hornets, 57-42, was exciting. Team members scoring in double digits were Will Martin (21), Cosby Salters (12), and Trey Bush (12).
Then on Friday, November 30, our Lady Pirates and Pirates hosted Dawson's boys and girls' Greenwaves. Our girls fell 65-46. Sukena Diamond hit 2 three-pointers in the second quarter. Christy Daniels was the top scorer with a total of 16 points, followed by Sukena Diamond (12), Shay Crankfield (10).
In the boys' game, Terrell County thought it would be a run-away game in their favor, but they got fooled. The Pirates lost 75-63, but it was a great game. Top scorer for Miller County was Trey Bush with a total of 16 points, Will Martin hit 2 three-pointers for a total of 14 points while Zenario Shuler hit 3 three-pointers with a total of 14 points, and Victor Johnson came out in the first quarter hitting a three pointer right off the bat. Cosby Salters added 12 points, and Juwan "Rock" Jones assisted with three points. Top scorers for Terrell were Donta Griggs and James McGill each with 17 points, Quintravis Benjamin with 15 points, and Brandin Browner with 12 points.
A lot of fouls were called from both sides of the bench, and some team members from both sides fouled out. A good crowd turned out, and the teams appreciated that very much.
