Pirates bow out to Patriots
by Glenda Bailey

The second round of the state play-offs for the Miller County Pirates was held in Rochelle as they fell to the Wilcox County Patriots, 25-0.

A great crowd of Pirate fans made the trip and gave their support tremendously. A lot of folks did not think that our Pirates would go as far as they have gone, but they did, and all the true Pirate fans are very proud of our team.

As the game got underway, Wilcox was on the receiving end and was quick to add a touchdown on the scoreboard and an extra point. There were a lot of questions about some penalties, but it was just not Miller County's time.

Wilcox's defense keyed in on Shanwdre Sheffield, keeping him from picking up good yardage. It was as if the Patriots already knew our Pirates' every move. Sheffield, along with the rest of the Pirate team, gave it their all.

As the fourth quarter came to an end, the Miller County Pirates' dream of advancing to the third round of state lay-offs diminished. The final score was Wilcox County, 25, and Miller County, 0.

The Miller County cheerleaders, MCHS Marching Pirate Band, and our MCHS Football team, along with the coaches, thank everyone for the support this season.

To the students who went the extra mile to show the team how much they were behind them, thank you! The signs along the way were awesome. To the seniors, always remember that you gave it your best shot, and you will be missed next year.
