Controlling cholesterol safely
Between 10 and 15 billion dollars a year is being spent in America on prescription drugs to control high cholesterol. Yet, death and disability from heart attacks continue to rise.

We all have an enzyme in our liver whose function is to produce cholesterol and CoQ10. Both are vital for various functions in the body. The popular statin class of drugs works by depressing the enzyme's production of cholesterol and CoQ10 production is depressed at the same time. CoQ10 deficiency is a major cause of congestive heart failure (CHF). About 400,000 Americans get CHF each year, and around half of those will die within five years.

The good news is high cholesterol can be controlled without depleting your body of essential CoQ10. Sugar cane is the source of one of the most powerful, natural cholesterol-lowering nutrients ever discovered. The nutrient is not extracted from sugar, however.

Policosanol is a mixture of fatty alcohol molecules extracted from sugar cane wax. Using doses of 5 to 10 mg of policosanol daily, beneficial cholesterol levels go up and bad cholesterol plus triglyceride levels go down. It is also effective in those that are type-2 diabetes. The elderly can achieve impressive results with doses as low as 1 mg daily.

Policosanol is a supplement and does not require a prescription. It is available in most health food stores and pharmacies. It can also be ordered over the internet, simply type in the search word policosanol and many sources will display. For other natural health tips visit www.cajunernie.com.
