Twister-like winds damage several areas
by MCL staff writer

High winds cause damage to trees and buildings on Drew Floyd Road. wister-like winds
Damaging lightning and high winds came with a storm front that also brought some much needed moisture to this area last Monday.

The first high winds came from the west side of the county on SR 39 where gusts took off the tops of two barns or sheds, damaged several pecan trees and rolled over an irrigation system.

As the storm continued across the county to the east, several calls came into the 911 office to report trees and limbs in the roadways.

Another caller reported that twister-like winds had hit near a home just off SR 45, on Drew Floyd Road, damaging the rear of the home. The winds were strong enough to twist large limbs from live oak trees near the back porch of a home at 265 Drew Floyd Road. Numerous trees were twisted down, and limbs were scattered around the area.

The National Weather Bureau predicted the bad weather as the storms came through this area, along with the blessed rains that accompanied the lightning and high winds.

Reports from .5 inches up to over an inch fell on the parched ground before the sun came out late Monday evening and the rains were gone.
