Carter-Dunn family reunion held

The descendants, relatives and friends of George Washington "Coon" Carter and Ella Fain Dunn Carter gathered for the 37th consecutive year on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the Miller County Elementary School on Pirate Drive.

Registration began at 11:00 a.m., and there were 89 in attendance for the occasion. The following officers presided: Danny Carter, president; Ryan Haire, vice president; Darla Carter Davis, treasurer; Pam Longshore, secretary.

The welcome was given by Danny Carter. The opening prayer was given by Audrey Duncan Dozier. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ryan Haire. Dewitt Carter blessed all with songs of inspiration.

The oldest in attendance was Pauline Lofton; she was 92 in April. Pauline is the daughter of the late Guyton and Maggie Mae Sholar Carter and the granddaughter of the late George and Ella Dunn Carter.

The youngest in attendance was William Carter at the age of 9 months, the son of Chris and Jeri Carter. He is the third great-grandson of George and Ella Dunn Carter. Having traveled the farthest to attend was Donna C. DeBord. She is the great-granddaughter of George and Ella Dunn Carter.

The one with the most immediate family members in attendance was Evon Carter Phillips.

Door prizes were won by Anthony Duncan, Polly Lofton, and Lance Heard. The blessing over the covered dish luncheon was given by Grover Duncan.

Relatives and descendants of the late George Guyton "Guyte" and Maggie Mae Sholar Carter who were present were Pauline Lofton, Virginia Ingram, India Taylor and Bud Carter.

Relatives and descendants of the late Theodore Dolphus "Sang" and Huron Brown Carter were Steven and Carol Carter, Dewitt and Bessie Carter, Bruce Hall, Floy Devries, Kathleen Hatcher, Donna C DeBord, Ralf and Denise Nicolai, Chelesa Nicolai, Brandon Nicolai, Ray and Rebecca Haire, Elaine Inlow.

Relatives and descendants of the late William T. and Lucy Caldonia "Donie" Carter Lawrence were Melvin and Dorothy Haire.

Relatives and descendants of the Dunn family were Sam and Marilyn Dunn.

The 38th annual reunion is scheduled for the first Sunday in October of 2008.
