We knew it all along that Miller County is close to, if not the original Garden of Eden. Not only do we grow the best corn, peanuts and cotton in the world, a few new crops creep in every so often.
Somewhere in the jungles of Miller County grows stalks of bananas such as these shown. These shown are what's left of a nice stalk of mini-bananas in the yard of Mrs. Lydia Sheffield on Avenue Road.
Ms. Lydia, 90, stated that the bananas were more in number at one time, but the stalks broke the large banana tree from sheer weight ,and some of the small, but delicious bananas were lost or eaten.
While at her home, the re- porter collected a large bag of delicious pears to be cooked for later consumption.
The great taste of these bananas can be attested to by this writer since they were enjoyed with breakfast food the next day after harvest.
