Comm-Unity
by Rev. Damien Salazar, Pastor South Mt. Zion Church

Community - a group of people living in the same locality and under the same government. The district of locality in which such a group lives: a small rural community. A group or class having common interest.

Unity - The state of being one, singleness. The state, quality, or condition of accord or agreement; concord.

A little over a year ago my family and I moved into a small community, one in which we were excited to come into, and still are. Everyday presents new challenges like will I get the kids to school in time because I am stuck behind all this traffic, which is following a rather large piece of farm equipment that takes up both lanes, or the sun is setting, will there be any restaurants open besides Hardee's?

But amongst all this a new challenge has risen from the ashes. How can all this small town became a community again? Now I know you're saying we are still a town, and we are but lately our headlines are no different from that of a major city. Crime seems to be rearing its ugly head from drugs to shootings to child molestation. These are all things that tend to destroy the moral fabric of our lives and causes fear to run rampant but God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 So within all this we need to find the things that bring us together not tear us apart.

The last year has only shown that we are further apart then we are together. Matthew 12:25 says this, "And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." If we continue to take this route is this our fate? God forbid! We must turn back to the sovereign community that God has called us to be in one mind and one accord thus accomplishing the Lords will for us as individuals, for our families, for our children and future generations to come.

Unity is the key to any victory! Ephesians 4:3 says, "Make every effort to keep yourselves together with peace." We need to put aside our differences and find the thing that binds us together and that is the sense of comm - unity we need. A person once said "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." Let us not do the insane let us follow the Lord for "blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law does he meditate day and night." Psalm 1:1-2

We at the Ministerial Fellowship are striving to do just that, come together in Comm-Unity, to bring the community back to God one individual at a time. No agendas, just give God the glory. May God richly bless you this week in all of your endeavors. Amen.
