Law Enforcement Reports Accident On October 6, 2007 OfficerShane Rathel was dispatched to Griggs Lucille Road in reference to damage to property. Upon arrival, OfficeRathel spoke with Sylvia George in reference to an accident that had already occurred and damage was done to her property. During the previous evening someone lost control of a vehicle and skidded through Ms. George's yard causing damage to the yard, destroying seven trees, and damaging the fence. The vehicle had left the scene of the accident. Evidence was collected at the scene. On October 5, 2007 OfficerBen Nix responded to Crawford Street. Upon arrival, Rusty Darley pulled out onto the highway after his vision was obscured by a semi and struck a Ford Explorer driven by Kathy Burch of Colquitt. Burch was trying to make a left turn into a private drive. On October 6, 2007, John Gerald Dunlap of Colquitt was travelling up Highway 91 South towards Colquitt in the fast lane when Mr. Dunlap stopped to turn left into a driveway, causing James Keaton of Colquitt to swerve into the outside lane and colliding with Donna Wilson. On October 2, 207 Laura Jean Bracewell was backing out of the parking lot at First State Bank in a eastward direction while a Nissan Altima driven by Darlene M. Hart was parked. The back passenger side bumper of Ms. Bracewell's vehicle struck Ms. Hart's driver side bumper causing minor damage to both vehicles. No citations were given. Lost Wallet On October 7, 2007, Officer Glover made contact with Casey Gabriel Spence. Spence advised that on October 6, 2007 his wallet was placed on the bumper of his truck. Spence did not know that his wallet was missing until he reached Donalsonville. Spence contacted his credit card companies and cancelled all cards. Burglary On October 6, 2007 OfficerTerry Williams responded to the old Mount Zion Church on Newberry Chambers Road. Upon arrival officerWilliams observed that someone had broken out the door windows, and damages totaled more than $500.00. The case is still under investigation. Domestic Violence On October 4, 2007 OfficerBrad Cox was dispatched to Old Airport Road in reference to domestic violence. The call came in from the Baker County Sheriff's Officeand was reported that a female was barricaded inside her car in order to escape from her boyfriend, who was trying to take her keys. Captain Shane Rathel arrived on the scene first and, followed by OfficerCox, and Investigator Nix. Upon arriving, OfficerCox observed Lynn Patterson sitting on the back porch of the residence and she was talking with Captain Rathel. Patterson was extremely intoxicated and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on her person. Patterson stated that she had been living with Tony Givens for about a month now and that he is abusive. Patterson stated that she tried to leave, and then Givens took her keys at that time. Patterson said that she then tried to call for help with her cell phone. Patterson had no visible marks on her body that would indicate that she had been physically abused. She kept stating that she was afraid that Givens was going to kill her. Patterson was transported to the Sheriff's office,so her mother could pick her up. Givens came by the sheriff's officeand asked about the incident. He stated that someone had called him and told him that she was drunk. He stated that he took her keys to keep her from going out and killing someone on the highway. Givens stated that he did not want Patterson to get hurt or hurt someone. Givens was advised that Patterson would be staying somewhere else for the rest of the day. Disorderly Conduct On October 2, 2007 OfficerStone responded to Michael Street to a possible fight. Upon arrival, there were two black females yelling at each other and going towards each other as if they were about to fight. OfficerStone made contact with the females and got them separated. While conducting the interview of the incident, Miranda Butler, kept yelling and cussing and she was warned that if she continued she would be arrested. Butler was arrested for disorderly conduct and transported to the Sheriff's Office where she was booked. On October 2, 2007 OfficerDan Stone responded to the Spring Creek Villas. It was stated that there was a fight in progress. Upon arrival, OfficerStone noticed a large group of people standing around the vehicle belonging to Ms. Tonya Riggins, who was sitting in the car with her sister, Linda Riggins. They were arguing with a Stephany Morris and Sandra Burke. OfficerStone got the two parties separated and began to interview both Riggins' girls. They stated that they were leaving the Villas when Mr. Morris yelled out an obscene word and heard something hit her vehicle. Ms. Morris then came to her porch and approached them and they started fighting. All four parties were charged with affray and were booked at the Sheriff's Office. Lost Cell Phone On October 4, 2007 Quentin Kente Carter came to the police department and reported that he lost his Verizon, LG Chocolate cell phone somewhere inside the city limits of Colquitt. Mr. Carter stated he had his phone the morning of October 4, and while making stops throughout the city, he lost the phone. Intoxicated Person On October 5, 2007 a call came into the 911 dispatch and advised that they believed there was an intoxicated person walking on Cuthbert Street. When OfficerSmith passed the hospital, he was able to see the subject, and he was staggering with every step. OfficerSmith stopped and spoke with the subject, Joseph Lee Turner. A strong odor of alcohol was on his person, and his speech was slurred, and he did not have the ability to stand without wobbling. Turner was placed under arrest for D.U.I. and transported to the jail. Driving Under the Influence On October 6, 2007 OfficerMedina was on patrol on Grow Street when he observed a black Chevrolet Tahoe heading west on Grow Street. Upon getting behind the vehicle, OfficerMedina observed it weaving over the roadway, unable to stay in its designated lane. The Tahoe came up to the stop sign at Grow Street and First Street and was unable to stop correctly at the sign. OfficerMedina then initiated his blue lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver, Augustus Hornsby, was arrested and transported to the Miller County Sheriff's Department and charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane. Possession of Cocaine On October 6, 2007 OfficerDan Stone was on patrol and noticed a black Izuzu pickup truck traveling south on Milford Street towards Pine Street. The vehicle had no tag and the driver, Eugene Emanuel King, did not signal when he turned right onto Pine Street. OfficerStone stopped the vehicle and made contact with Mr. King and asked him for his license and insurance. He stated that he had no license because they were suspended for a precious DUI conviction. A strong odor of alcohol was present. Officer Stone then searched Mr. King to arrest him and found in his front pocket a crack pipe and a piece of tin foil wadded up very tight. Inside the foil was a small plastic bag containing white powdery substance which field tested positive twice for cocaine. Mr. King was placed under arrest and transported to the Miller County Jail. |
