Cats Conquer Pirates, 36-17
Cats Conquer by Glenda Bailey, sports writer

The Miller County Pirates knew they would have a hard game against the Early County Bobcats, but the Cats were surprised by our boys in Red. The Pirates were the first to put points on the scoreboard even if it was a field goal. The score stood 3-0 during the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Early County answered back with four touchdowns. Bobcat running back Neko Wimberly ran in three while Anthony Williams scored one. A two-point conversion was good, and point attempts were on target moving the Bobcats out in front with the score of 28-3 at the half-time.

During half-time, the Early County Marching Bobcats and the Miller County Marching Pirates performed beautifully. The Marching Pirates are under the direction of band director, Mr. Richard Horne, and under the field direction of Miss Megan Phillips. Our awesome Pirate Band performed the 2006 Summer Blockbuster film, "Superman Returns."

During the third quarter, Early County nipped a safety from our Pirates, moving the score to 30-3. The Bobcats scored a touchdown from a batted away Grant pass. Early County's # 45 Okoye Yarbrough snatched up the pig and stepped into the end zone for a touchdown. Miller County answered back with Grant handing off to Cosby Salters for a touchdown. The Pirates' two-point conversion was good by Shawndre Sheffield. The Pirates were moving up, 36-11. The next touchdown came from the Pirates as Grant connected with Trez Morgan. The two point attempt was broken up, but again the Pirates had moved up on the scoreboard, 36-17.

The Black Death Defense led by Cosby Salters played hard. Salters batted away two Bobcats' passes, Frank Jones and Anthony Thompson put pressure on Early County offense all night long. As the final seconds ticked down, the Early County Bobcats had won again against the Miller County Pirates with the final score of 36-17.

This Friday, The Pirates will be traveling up the road to Baconton. The team, along with cheerleaders, and our Marching Pirates, hopes to see everyone there showing your support.
