Mayhaw queens chosen

The Colquitt/Miller County Chamber of Commerce held its annual Mayhaw Pageant Saturday night, September 8, 2007, at the Miller County Elementary School Auditorium.

The theme for this year's pageant was "Reflections...25 years of Mayhaw Festivals." The theme was carried out in the stage decor.

The pageant got underway with the singing of the "National Anthem" by Slade Alday.

Vincent Edenfieldintroduced the master of ceremonies for the pageant, Slade Alday.

The pageant featured 27 lovely young ladies vying for the titles of Tiny Miss, Little Miss, Young Junior Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Miss National Mayhaw.

"She's Got The Look," featuring the 2006 Miss National Mayhaw Festival Queens got the pageant underway. The reigning queens are Tiny Miss, AnaLeigh Cook; Little Miss, Jillian Hawkins; Junior Miss, Brittany Beard; Teen Miss, Amber Pickett; and Miss, Lauren Arnold.

The Tiny Miss and Little Miss made their way to the stage next to "Make Me a Star," as they introduced themselves to the judges and audience.

"Baby, I'm a Star," featured the Young Junior Miss and Junior Miss contestants who were welcomed to the stage next as they introduced themselves.

The Teen Miss and Miss contestants followed with "It's About That Walk," and each of them introduced themselves the judges and audience.

Master of Ceremonies Slade Alday then introduced the judges and the auditors for the night's pageant.

After the Tiny Miss, Little Miss, and Young Junior Miss walk and on-stage question, the audience was entertained by Georgia Junior Teen America Rachel Grimsley.

The Teen and Miss verbal communication was next as the contestants gave their speech on "A reflection of who I am......" followed by Tiny Miss AnaLeigh Cook giving her farewell speech and walk.

After the crowning of the Tiny Miss, Jillian Hawkins, Little Miss, gave her farewell speech and walk.

Tiny Miss winners included Most Photogenic, Prettiest Dress and People's Choice, Mackenzie Pickle. Second runner-up was Bridget Peterson, and first runner-up was Destiny Jones, and the new Tiny Miss Mayhaw is Mackenzie Pickle.

Little Miss contestant Savannah Hall was Most Photogenic, Prettiest Dress and People's Choice. Second runner-up was Morgan Giannars. First runnerup was Savannah Hall, and the new Little Miss Mayhaw is Kim Cao. Others competing in the pageant were Mallory West and Arin Harrison.

Young Junior Miss winners were Most Photogenic and Prettiest Dress, Sydney Lee, and People's Choice, Konner Gordon. Second runner-up was Maegan Harrison. First runner-up was Konnor Gordon, and the new Young Junior Miss is Sydney Lee. Others competing in the pageant were Julia Grimsley, Kara Williams, Katlyn West and Kiley Harden. After a 10 minute intermission, Lauren Arnold, Miss Mayhaw, introduced the visiting queens.

The Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Miss were then welcomed once again to the stage for their walk and on stage question.

Tiny Miss Mayhaw, Ana- Leigh Cook and Little Miss Mayhaw, Jillian Hawkins then entertained the audience, followed by Brittany Beard, Junior Miss Mayhaw, giving her farewell speech and walk.

Junior Miss winners were Most Photogenic, Megan Tharp; Prettiest Dress, Ansley Phillips; and People's Choice, Katie Cofty. Second runner-up was Katie Cofty. First runnerup was Megan Tharp, and the new Junior Miss Mayhaw is Ansley Phillips.

Before the crowning of the Teen Miss, Amber Pickett, Teen Miss Mayhaw gave her farewell walk and speech. Recognized as Most Photogenic winner and for Prettiest Dress was Audrey Runnels, and People's Choice was Charlea Hall. Second runner-up was Charlea Hall. First runner-up was Kanesha Register, and the new Teen Miss Mayhaw is Audrey Runnels. Others competing in the pageant were Karis Smith and Amber Espinoza.

Miss National Mayhaw, Lauren Arnold gave her farewell speech and walk before the winners were announced. Photogenic winner was Jessica Henry. Prettiest Dress was Kelli Powell, and People's Choice was Mandy Lane. First runner-up was Jessica Henry, and the new Miss National Mayhaw Festival Pageant winner is Kelli Powell. Jessica Roberts also participated in the pageant.

These six new queens will reign over the 26th annual National Mayhaw Festival which will be held the third Saturday in April, 2008 at Spring Creek Park. They will also promote the festival as well as be guests in other parades and events.

"We greatly appreciate the efforts of all the girls to make this pageant memorable. The participation of all the volunteers, family and sponsors have come together to make the National Mayhaw Festival Pageant a highlight of the chamber's year," stated Veryl Garland Cockey.
