BC's Miley Integral Part of Technology/Web Conferences
Presents at Two Forums

Jenna Miley
Computer Science Assistant Professor Jenna Y. Miley of the Bainbridge College Arts and Sciences Division was a featured presenter at two conferences in August.

She and two colleagues presented their Meacham-Miley-Smith (MMS) Model for the development and design of classroom instruction Aug. 22-24 for the Society for Applied Learning and Technology (SALT) Conference in Arlington, VA. They also presented the model for an international Web Conference Aug. 1 that broke records for participation.

Ms. Miley, Margie Meacham of American Express and Dianna Smith of SSB Inc., developed the new instructional design model and were asked to present it at the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Benchmarking Forum Web Conference hosted by American Express and at SALT. According to Senior Project Manager M.J. Hall of the ASTD forum, they broke a record for participation.

Their presentation addressed the practical application of the new model of instructional design that employs rapid prototyping (quick development) concepts with the classic Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement & Evaluate (ADDIE) model in a new, more dynamic approach. They also discussed practical tools for implementation.

"There is a huge demand for this type of information in the training world," Ms. Miley said, noting the MMS Instructional Design model is the topic of her doctoral dissertation, The MMS Instructional Design Model - A Delphi Study.

A doctoral student with Capella University in the College of Education, Ms. Miley specializes in instructional design for online learning. On the BC faculty since 2002, she was the first BC faculty member chosen as a fellow in the Governor's Teaching Fellowship program. She has presented at several conferences, including the 2006 League of Innovations Conference in Atlanta. She has published several articles in scholarly journals and proceedings.

She has 20 years of experience teaching overseas and in the United States and is active in many organizations to enhance life-long learning and teaching.

Ms. Meacham, a manager of training for American Express Global Purchasing Services, has been a scholar-practitioner of adult learning more than 15 years. Ms. Smith of SSB, Inc. has more than 10 years of government contracting experience that includes creation of computer based and Web based training programs, and virtual instruction.
