Reception Honors Widener on Retirement from BC LPN Program A steady stream of wellwishers honored Nita Widener on her retirement as an instructor in the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program at Bainbridge College (BC). More than 150 individuals from BC and the community attended the drop-in reception in her honor that took place Aug. 10 at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Culminating the evening was the presentation of an oversized check for the Widener Scholarship that honors both Mrs. Widener and her late husband, Leonard "Bubba" Widener, who taught 30 years at the University of Kentucky. Accepting the check on behalf of the BC Foundation was long-time foundation member George Daniel. At the time the oversized check was created, the funds were just below $1,700 but had risen to more than $2,000 by the time of the reception, said LPN Program Director Doris Carmichael who organized the event and presented the check. By Aug. 31 the amount had increased to $2,575. Contributions continue to be sent and may be made payable to Bainbridge College Foundation (marked for Widener Scholarship Fund). Those who want to contribute may send a check to Bainbridge College Foundation Inc., Office of the President, POB 990, Bainbridge, GA 39818. |
