Eleven residents of Decatur and Miller counties made history at Bainbridge College as the first Medical Assisting class at BC.
Graduating in ceremonies at Port City Church of God in Bainbridge, the 11 who received certificates in the program August 4 were Samantha Campbell of Attapulgus; Octavia Bush, Wendy Daniel, Valnesia Glenn, Andrea Hampton, Regina Hicks, Shanta Jones, Allicia Murphy and Brittany Todd, all of Bainbridge; Francine Whitfield and Elizabeth Williams of Colquitt.
Participating in the program as the featured speaker was Rhonda Downing, associate pastor at Port City Church of God, who spoke of the responsibilities and the respect that come from being in the health care field. She also spoke of God's purpose in and for their lives and encouraged the graduates to be the best they can be. Mary Glenn Grimes and Martha Mitchell presented Gideon Bibles to the graduating class.
Rachelle Andreu is the instructor of the Medical Assisting Program in the Technical Studies Division. In addition to the one-year certificate program, Bainbridge College offers a two-year associate of applied science degree. The programs began in the 2006-07 academic year.
