It's that time of the year again when fall sports kick off, and the smell of grass, dirt, and sweat are combined into one.
The Miller County Pirates' Football Team will kick off its 2007-2008 season as it hosts the Indians of Irwin County this Thursday, August 26, 2007, in a pre-season scrimmage game. The game will start at 7:00 p.m. at Pirate Stadium. The coaches and players hope to see a packed stadium as they take on the Indians.
Coach Jason Houston stated, "We have a very young team, mainly made up of mostly underclassmen but are hoping for big things to happen this year. We have some very skilled players, even though they are young."
The Pirates will be coached this year by Frank Killingsworth, Jason Houston, Richard Griffin and Nate George.
Also we would like to congratulate the girls' softball team as they opened their season last Tuesday, August 14, hosting Thomasville here at Spring Creek Park. The Lady Pirates' were big winners, with a score of 10-0 in five innings.
Then on Thursday, August 16, the Lady Pirates were victorious with a win over the Early County Bobcats, 12-2. The game was called after the sixth inning due to the run rule.
On Saturday, August 18, the Lady Pirates traveled to Ashburn to compete in the annual "Rebel Classic." "This is a day we all should have stayed at home," commented Coach Richard Prescott." The Lady Pirates lost three games to Dodge County, Hawkinsville, and Westover. These losses dropped the Lady Pirates' season record to 2 wins, 3 losses.
The Lady Pirates will be traveling to Baconton this Thursday, Friday and Saturday to play in the third Annual Blazer Blast Off.
Go, MCHS Pirates and Lady Pirates!
