LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTS

Larceny

On July 31, Officer Lonnie Wade responded to the hospital parking lot in reference to a lost or stolen tag.

Upon arrival, he met with the complainant, Loria Drake of Climax. Ms. Drake stated she had come to the hospital to visit a relative and upon leaving, she noticed her tag was gone. Ms. Drake stated she had noticed it loose the day before but did not think about it falling off. Ms. Drake also mentioned an incident involving her father. She was advised that a report would be done on the tag and what actions she could take in applying for another tag.

Accident

On August 1, Officer Kenneth Kirkland responded to an accident on Three Notch Road.

Upon arrival, Christopher G. Kirkland stated that he was traveling north on Three Notch Road and started to pass a second vehicle. Upon passing the vehicle, Mr. Kirkland exited the roadway on the southbound shoulder.

Mr. Kirkland entered the southbound ditch, traveling approximately 630 feet prior to striking a concrete driveway and culvert. He then went over the drive, coming to rest facing north on the southbound shoulder.

On August 2, Officer Hollis Smith responded to the Miller County Hospital in reference to an accident.

Upon arrival, Officer Smith met with the drivers of the vehicles. Frances M. Bodrey of Colquitt stated that she did not see Latonya Chinelle Bryant of Blakely and backed into it causing damage to the front end of Ms. Bryant's vehicle.

There were no citations issued.

On August 3, Officer Kenneth Kirkland responded to Barnard's Convenient Store in reference to an accident.

Upon arrival, Officer Kirkland spoke with the drivers of the vehicles.

Leon Charles Peterson of Colquitt was backing in a westward direction from parking. Drewnell Rices of Colquitt was parked on the north side of Mr. Peterson's vehicle. As Mr. Peterson was backing, the driver cut sharp, thus striking Mr. Rices' vehicle and causing damage. No injuries or citations were issued.

On August 4, the Sheriff's office was notified of a fourwheeler accident on St. Paul Church Road.

When officers arrived, they found Aaron Torrey Hayes lying on the edge of the roadway.

Reports were that Hayes was traveling southbound on St. Paul Church Road, when a goat stepped out in front of his four-wheeler. He struck the goat in the roadway, which caused him to be ejected from his vehicle. Hayes landed at the edge of the roadway, several feet from the point of impact. The four-wheeler continued to travel southbound several more feet, rolling end over end, and coming to rest on its top in a private driveway.

Hayes was transported to the Miller County Hospital for further treatment.

Vehicle vs. Deer

On August 6, Officer Brad Cox responded to Birdsong Peanut Company on East Pine St., in reference to a vehicle accident involving a deer.

Upon arrival, he made contact with the complainant,

Phillip Kangeter Sr.

Kangeter stated that he was traveling southbound on Hwy. 91N. in a red 1998 Volvo semi tractor-trailer, when a deer ran out in front of him. He stated that he struck the deer with the front end of his semi tractor -trailer. He then drove the semi on to Birdsong where he observed that it had been damaged from the impact.

There was moderate damage to the semi tractor trailer.

On August 1, Officer Shane Rathel responded to a vehicle accident involving a deer on Hwy. 27 S.

Upon arrival, Earl James Williams of Leary stated that he was traveling south on Hwy. 27 when a deer ran into the front driver's tire of his Expedition, causing damage to the front fender area behind the front driver's tire.
