Miller County FFA Chapters Recognized at Convention

The Miller County Middle School FFA and Miller County High School FFA Chapters were both recognized for having 100% FFA membership during the 79th Georgia FFA Convention held April 26-28 at the Macon Centreplex. The 100 percent membership awards were presented to FFA chapters in which all students enrolled in agricultural education classes were FFA members.

The Georgia FFA Convention is held annually to recognize the successes of FFA Chapters and members from throughout the state and to conduct the business of the Georgia FFA Association. This year's convention theme was "Blue Jackets, Gold Standards." Highlights of the convention were addresses by motivational speakers Sam Glenn and Mike Schlappi and national FFA Vice President Coty Black.

Matthew Tully was awarded second place for the State Secretary's Book.
FFA members also explored the diverse career fields of agriculture during the convention career show, competed in FFA career development events and elected a new state FFA officer team to serve during the 2007-2008 school year.

FFA is a national youth organization of over 476,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. There are over 7,200 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Georgia has the third largest FFA membership in the nation with over 25,000 members. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
Brooke Widner was the State Swine Placement Proficiency Winner.
Kayla Calhoun was the State Farm Business Management CDE High Individual.
