LESTER WEAVER Lester Weaver, 98, who retired as a grounds keeper, died Sunday, March 11, 2007. The service was at 9 a.m. EDT Saturday at New Mount Zion AME Church, with burial at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 3 to 6 p.m. EDT Friday at the church. Tillman Funeral Home was handling arrangements. A native of Colquitt-Miller County, Ga., Mr. Weaver had lived in Tallahassee since 1953. He and his late wife, Clara, moved from Georgia to Tallahassee in the early 1940s but returned to Georgia for a few years before settling permanently in Tallahassee. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Colquitt. In recent years, he was a member of New Mount Zion AME Church in Tallahassee. He was a retired grounds keeper at the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FHP), where he was loving called "Colonel." After retiring, he kept busy up until a few months ago, working at the department's credit union and as a painter and landscaper. Survivors include his daughter, Louise Donaldson (and husband Horace and children) of Jacksonville; a sister, Jessie Mae Weaver of Tampa; and several grand-, great-grand- and great-greatgrandchildren. |
