Five injured in two-vehicle crash on N. First Street

Firemen and EMT rescue workers are quick to help the injured out of their vehicles.
An accident involving two vehicles occurred Thursday, March 15, 2007, at First Street and Cuthbert Street at 11:06 a.m., according to the 911 operator.

When the call came in, the Colquitt Police Department, the Miller County Ambulance Service and the Colquitt/Miller County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department were called to the scene.

Both vehicles were traveling north on First Street.

Felicia Sol, 24, of Blakely, was stopped, to make a left turn onto Cuthbert Street. Sol was driving a 1989 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. That vehicle was registered to Lucinda Ross of Cuthbert.

Passengers in Sol's vehicle were Nikia Rivers, 22; Datrel Bradley, 25; Daniella Brantly, 1; and Damien Humphary, 18, all of Blakely.

Andra Canidate, 26, of Arlington, was driving a 1992 Ford Escort LX. Canidate stated that a bee came in through the window, distracting him. The vehicle was registered to Travis Thornton of Blakely.

The driver went on to say that he didn't see Sol's vehicle and struck it on the passenger rear side, pushing the Chrysler into Cuthbert Street.

Six people complained of injuries; four were taken to the Miller County Hospital Emergency Room by EMS while the fifth drove herself to the emergency room.

The contributing cause of the accident was not listed on the accident report. An alcohol and drug test was taken on one driver. Four of the occupants of the vehicles were wearing safely equipment. Three of the occupants were not known if they were wearing safety equipment. The vehicle Canidate was driving was towed by wrecker.

Captain Daniel Stone was the investigating officer. No citations were issued at this time, pending results of the tests.
