The Brookwood Warriors came to Damascus Friday with a perfect 9-0 record and holding the #1 spot in the state coaches' poll. Brookwood proved they well deserved the accolades as they used their superior speed to break big play after big play on their way to defeating SGA, 63-42.

Brookwood received the opening kick-off and drove 80 yards in 12 plays to take an early 7-0 lead. After holding SGA to a 3-andout, Brookwood upped their lead to 14-0 on a 52-yard touchdown run.

SGA answered with a 17 play, 75-yard drive to cut into Brookwood's lead. Drew Bridges completed a 10-yard pass to Miles Lee and a 20-yarder to Michael Fincher before Alex Wilson powered it in from 2 yards out. Chandler Ray kicked the extra point, making it a 14-7 ball game at the 8:21 mark of the second quarter.

The Warriors could not stop Brookwood's big play offense, and Brookwood extended its lead to 21-7 on the next play, a 65-yard touchdown pass.

The Warriors answered with a nice drive. Bridges completed a 27-yard pass to Beau Clenney as SGA drove deep into Brookwood territory. SGA could not punch it in, and Ray came in and kicked a 28-yard field goal to make the score 21-10.

Brookwood exploded for three more touchdowns in the final 5:23 of the second quarter and went into halftime leading 42-10.

SGA received the kickoff to start the second half and put together an 11 play, 69-yard scoring drive. Big plays on the drive were pass completions from Bridges to Lee and Clenney for 10 and 14 yards and a 15-yard run by Wilson. Lee scored the touchdown from 3 yards out, making the score 42-16.

SGA tried an on-side kick, and Blake Shepard recovered it for the Warriors giving SGA the football at the 48-yard line. On first down, Drew Bridges passed to the real Boobie Miles, Michael Fincher, who made a nice catch and outraced the Brookwood defenders to the end zone cutting Brookwood's lead to 42-22 at the 8:58 mark of the third quarter. That was as close as SGA could get, though.

Brookwood got lucky, scooping up their own fumbles on the next two possessions, running them in for touchdowns to extend their lead back out to 56-22, but the Warriors never quit and kept fighting back.

Will Brown scored a touchdown running it in from 3 yards out to complete a 70-yard, 7 play drive with 5:11 left in the third quarter.

Brookwood had another long run, making it a 63-28 ball game.

Andrew Stone scored SGA's next touchdown from 3 yards out, making the score 63-36. On the ensuing kick-off, Troupe Tabb recovered the pooch kick for SGA, giving the Warriors the ball at the Brookwood 35-yard line. Six plays later Taylor Tabb ran it in from 8 yards out, making the final score 63-42.

Drew Bridges completed 19 of 37 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown. Michael Fincher was the leading receiver with 4 receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown. Alex Wilson rushed for 74 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown.

With the loss, SGA drops to 6-4 on the year and into a 3-way tie for second place in the region with Tiftarea and Valwood. Because only the top two teams advance into the playoffs, the three teams are to meet Monday night at Brookwood at 6:00 for a mini play-off to determine which team gets to advance into the playoffs. Go, Warriors!
