Mr. James Oscar Masters, age 83, of Dawson died at his residence on Thursday, October 25, 2007.

Graveside services were held in Cedar Hill Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28, with Rev. Shane Busby officiating.

Mr. Masters was born in Crisp County on July 12, 1924, to the late James Arthur Masters and Ollie Bell Nivens Masters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in WWII. He worked for Pineland Plantation for many years as a maintenance manager. In 1972, he moved to Dawson where he began working for Laing Implement Company as a tractor mechanic and later retired in 1975.

He was a member of the Beacon Baptist Church of Albany, where he had served as a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion and Woodman of the World.

Survivors include his wife, Ardis Davis Masters of Dawson; two sons, Mickey (Angie) of Colquitt and Al Masters of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Suzan (Sam) DeLoach of Leesburg and Joyce (Johnny) Holt of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronney Masters, two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.

Harvey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
