50th wedding anniversary celebrated

Ferrell and Sara Ann Keaton Ferrell and Sara Ann Keaton Mr. and Mrs. James Ferrell Keaton of Colquitt celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 1, 2007 at the Tarrer Inn. Their children, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick O'Neal Keaton, Mr. F. Christopher Keaton, and Mrs. Keaton's brother, Mr. James C. O'Neal, hosted the celebration.

Mrs. Keaton, the former Sara Ann O'Neal, was radiant in a long sleeve bronze and cream silk cocktail dress.

Ferrell and Sara Ann, along with Patrick, Marianne, Chris, and Jimmy, greeted approximately 200 guests. Mrs. Betty Miller and Mrs. Dorothy Nickoley invited everyone to sign the guest book and directed them to the Colquitt Room to watch a delightful DVD of meaningful events in the life of Ferrell and Sara Ann. Ms. Misty Hayes created this enjoyable pictorial video as a surprise to the two lovebirds.

The musical offerings were lovely and were pleasant accompaniments to the enthusiastic company and the appetizing food and drink. Mr. Gene Houston, pianist, and Miss Sonny Gross, vocalist, presented favorite musical selections throughout the evening. A terrific ensemble -- Mr. Chris Keaton, Mr. Kent Richardson, Mr. Larry King Jr., and Mr. Houston sang, "Get Me To the Church on Time" and "Through the Years." Mr. Willie Fred Pugh sang "Because," and Mr. John Blue closed with "Amazing Grace." All during the evening guests gathered around the piano for an old fashioned sing-along while others danced. Sara Ann especially enjoyed dancing with her three grandchildren, Caleb, Joseph, and Joshua Keaton.

Mrs. John (Wilma) Lauder of Tallahassee, FL, and Mrs. Peyton H. (Kay) Keaton III or Orlando, FL, cut and served the delicious three tier white cake frosted in gold leaves and topped with a gardenia bouquet. Mrs. Charles (Arlene) Keaton of Marietta and Mrs. Dave (Joyce) Armbruster of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, served tasty punch. Refreshments were served in Grow Hall and consisted of assorted sandwiches, varied fruit and vegetable trays, nuts and mints.

Ferrell and Sara Ann welcomed and thanked everyone for sharing their evening of happiness and joy. Sara Ann introduced members of the 1957 wedding party, Mrs. John Emory (Dorothy Ann Parker) Trawick, Mrs. John (Wilma Brinkley) Lauder, Mrs. Dick (Harriett Simpson) Price, Mr. Peyton H. Keaton III, Mr. Charles Keaton, Mr. Jimmy O'Neal, and Mrs. Duane Cheshire Keaton, mother of the groom. Mrs. Bruce C. (Muriel Hoffman) Thomas, maternal aunt of Sara Ann, was a special guest.

The following members of the wedding party are deceased: parents of the bride, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Harry O'Neal; sister of the bride, the late Miss Erin A. O'Neal; father of the groom, the late Mr. Peyton H. Keaton Jr., and friend of the bride and groom, Mr. Lamar "Bo" Miller.

Mr. Gene Powell, Mr. Louis Nowell and sister of the groom, Mrs. Emily Franklin, were unable to attend.

After the introductions, Ferrell and Sara Ann enjoyed listening to several stories and toasts. Then the Rev. David Thompson, pastor of Colquitt United Methodist Church, said a prayer to bless the occasion.

Fifty years of reminiscing ended as each guest took home a sprig of rosemary to plant in remembrance of this happy occasion.
