Letters to the Editor
Letters to the Editor Dear Terry,
Since I was the school nurse at Miller County high School/ Middle School for two years, recent events compel me to send this letter to the editor.
Once again, I am shocked and dismayed by the actions of the Board of Education. Not only did they ignore the voices of the many people present at both meetings, but the two dissenting members arrogantly refused to discuss the issues behind their votes not to rehire Kent Richardson.
Of course, they could not discuss the issues without revealing the long standing personal/family vendetta in action.
This has been witnessed numerous times.
We witnessed it with the transfer of Kent Richardson from the middle school to the elementary school. How ironic that, shortly after this BOE action, Kent received the honor of being named one of the top principals in the State of Georgia, based on the performance of the middle school under his leadership.
We witnessed it with the removal of the Richardson Field sign from the football stadium.
For the Richardsons, both present and past, I have the greatest admiration for your convictions and principles of fairness and equality to all students and staff under your leadership. Though it has cost you dearly, you refused to lower your standards to the "good old boy" practice of granting special favors and exceptions to the rules and regulations of the school system you served.
For the Board of Education, both present and past, I have lost all respect for your ability or desire to do the job you were elected to do.
For the students of Miller County, I regret that, once again, you have been denied the leadership you deserve.
Sincerely,
Shirley Day
Dear Editor,
I am a student at Miller County Middle School in Miller County. I am writing to you today about getting more recreational facilities.
In Miller County, as you may know, kids do not have much to do for fun besides hanging out at the park. I was hoping that you would consider my proposal of getting a small skate park. A bunch of my friends skate, so do I.
It is a good recreational hobby and also good exercise. To adults it may seem a waste of time, but to us it is a good sport. It may also keep "Gang-Bangs" and drugs off the street.
To go on, this may result in a healthier generation of adults.
MCMS student,
Billy Grimsley
