P r o p a n e t r u c k o v e r t u r n s Firemen keep propane tank wet and cooled down until experts arrive to help with this possible disaster. P r o p a n e t r u c k o v e r t u r n s In late breaking news, a large propane tank overturned Tuesday, February 27, at approximately 8:15 a.m.

All law enforcement agencies, fire and rescue units and emergency units were sent to the scene of an overturned propane truck.

This is a very hazardous situation, and must be treated as if there could be a dangerous explosion if the tank ruptured.

All traffic going into the wreck scene was cut off for hours, until the highly flammable truck could be removed.

Emergency response teams from Albany and other areas were called by local officials to help with the cleanup.

The accident occurred just passed the intersection of Cooktown Road and Phillipsburg Road.

The driver, Jamie Johnonson, of the propane truck lost control of his vehicle while he was travel north on the Phillipsburg Road. The scene indicated that the driver dropped off the road on the east side. He over compensated and pulled the truck back onto the Phillipsburg Road, and the truck overturned, sliding down the highway.

The driver was injured and taken to the local hospital with visible injuries.

All residents in the area were evacuated out of their homes until the danger is over.

When this article was written, at around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, the hazardous responders from Albany had not arrived.

A more detailed account of what happened and how the different departments responded to a possible disaster will be in the next edition of this newspaper.

Again, as usual, the Colquitt/ Miller County Volunteer Firemen put themselves in harms way for the people of this county. They do this freely and with great skills. Thank them. That is all the pay that they will receive.
