Mr. Leonard Varnum, 87, of Colquitt passed away February 22, 2007, in Miller County Hospital.

Mr. Varnum was born on January 25, 1920, in Graceville, FL. He was a retired sewing machine mechanic with Dickies in Bainbridge, served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was s member of the Gerald Grow Post #165 American Legion, and Deacon Emeritus at New Home Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 3 P.M. Sunday, February 25, at New Home Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Sheffield and Rev. Benjamin Miller officiating. Interment followed at New Home Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Pat (Richard) Cook of Colquitt; one son, Lamar Varnum of Colquitt; three brothers, Hubert Varnum of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Kenneth Varnum of LeHigh Acres, FL, and Carroll Varnum of Edison; five grandchildren, Dennis Cook, Ricky Cook, Tammy Vann, Raymond Varnum, and Daniel Varnum; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Varnum.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
