Large backhoe slides off of tractor-trailer. just slid off- - - - - - - - - It sounded bad, and it could have been Friday, February 9, at approximately 4:00 p.m., when the call came into the 911 dispatcher that a large backhoe had fallen off of the tractor-trailer that was transporting it.

Offiicers were called to the scene at the intersection of Fourth Street and Milford Road.

The driver, had just crossed the railroad tracks, and was making his turn onto Fourth Street off of Milford Road when the large chain broke that was holding the backhoe on, and it slipped off the trailer on the left side.

Edwin Atkinson, owner of Atkinson Construction, stated that he had sent the large backhoe to a site out in the county to pull another large backhoe out of a bog, and they were bringing it back to the company site when the accident occurred.

Within minutes, the large backhoe was loaded back onto the tractor-trailer, and the dirt was scraped and swept off the roadway. There was no damage to the equipment or to the roadway.
