Ebony Dots & Dashes
by Katie Smith

In memory of my friend Mrs. Edith McDuffie on her 86th Birthday - Dec. 15, 2006. By Eloise B. Holt

A Friend

A friend is someone we turn to when our spirits need a lift,

A friend is someone we treasure. For true friendship is a giftA

friend is someone we laugh with over little personal things

A friend is someone who fills our lives with beauty and joy and grace and makes the world we live in

A better and happier place.

Last Friday was the birthday of my good friend Mrs. Edith McDuffie. She has been my friend several years and has given more than she ever knew. This will be the Christmas that I will not have a nothing bread. But I will remember her always.

Mrs. Waver Fountain was admitted to Miller County Hospital last Tuesday.

Mrs. Lenzia Grant, Ms. Gwen Lane, Mrs. Margaret Grant and Mrs. Katie Smith worshipped at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Jakin last Sunday. The four churches in the circuit came together and had their Christmas celebration.

The musical benefit program that was held last Saturday night at Bethel Baptist Church for the Millie Johnson Family was a great success. The community turned out and gave their support to this family. They are grateful to each and every one who came and to those who sent. May God bless you is their prayer.

The Reynolds Burney Family of Norfork, VA, will be arriving Wednesday of this week to spend Christmas with family and friends. April is the daughter of Mrs. Vickie Dunnell and the granddaughter of Mrs. Gwen Lane. We will be glad to see that bunch. They were home in July.

Christmas is just a week away, and festivities are already being had with more to come. At Mt. Olive M.B. Church a musical is to be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock p.m.

Mrs. Petronia Bryant is in the hospital in Dothan, AL. Pray for her. She is supposed to have a pacemaker put in to help her recover.

Had a call from a cousin in New Jersey on Sunday. Annie Kate Woodall called to check up on a friend. She had been calling and getting no response. But she called on Sunday, Mr. Bryant answered, and she got to talk to her friend Petronia. She is a native Miller Countian who keeps in touch with her home folks.

In case I don't see some of my good friends, I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
