EMMA LOYLESS CUMBIE
Mrs. Emma Loyless Cumbie, 88, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville, GA. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge, GA with Rev. Ed Harrell officiating. Interment followed at West Bainbridge Cemetery in Bainbridge, GA. Mrs. Cumbie was born September 15, 1916 in Miller County, GA, the daughter of George W. Loyless and Minnie Cloud Loyless. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, N. B. Cumbie, and a daughter, Jimmie Ruth Cumbie King. Survivors include a son, Nathan Cumbie and his wife, Loraine, of Dothan, AL; a daughter, Mary C. Niles and her husband, James, of Merrifield, MN; nine grandchildren, Wallace Jim Niles, Christy Niles Peterson, Brenda King McNair, Linda King Dillard, William D. “Billy” King, James Edwin King, Carolyn Ann King Chason, Nathan Earl Cumbie, Jr., and Sharon Cumbie Pauley; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

HORACE BROUGHTON NEWBERRY
Horace Broughton Newberry, age 78, died peacefully, and unexpectedly, at his home in Richmond Hill, GA on June 6, 2005 with his wife of 60 years at his side. The lifelong residents of Donalsonville, except for a period of approximately 15 years when they had lived in South FL, had relocated to Richmond Hill 9 years ago to be near their daughters. Graveside services was held Friday, June 10, at Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, GA at 2:00 PM. with Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating. Horace was employed for many years in the grocery business, however his life’s passion was square dancing. He brought more than 35 years of joy and laughter to many of all ages who enrolled in his various Square Dance Clubs. He taught Square Dancing for years at the Chipola Junior College. His daughters loved to hear him tell the story that “not many without more than a 6th grade eduction had ever taught at college level”. He was a featured caller at state and national conventions. Horace was a veteran of the United States Navy during WW II. In 2003, he was acknowledged by the Labelle, FL Masonic Lodge for 50 years of membership, He was an invited Square Dance Caller at several functions during the grassroots election of President Jimmy Carter. He was also a member of Friendship United Methodist in Donalsonville, GA. He will be most remembered as husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His most often response to “how are you?” He would reply, “Tip Top” Many said of him, “he never met a stranger”. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Spooner Newberry, daughters, Glenda Weed and husband Joe; Janet Erickson and husband Eric. Five grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joseph Dunning Weed, Jr., Theodore Woodrow Erickson, Jr., Joseph Dunning Weed, III, Jonathan Patrick King, Theodore “Ted” Newberry, and Weyman “Buck” Buckalter.

LOUVERN WEAVER YATES
Louvern Weaver Yates, 90, of Brinson, died Sunday, June 5, 2005 at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Brinson with the Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons Eldridge Cannon, Darius Cannon, James Cannon, Bo Jones, Ed Jones, and J.W. Jones.
Mrs. Yates was born on May 29, 1915 in Early County, the daughter of Hulbert Otis Weaver and Bertha Dorina Weddington Weaver. She married Willis Rudolph Yates and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Y. Cannon and Judy Y. Jones, both of Brinson; one brother, Therman Barber of Bainbridge; two sisters, Waldine Scott of Brinson and Christine Boyett of Climax; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Everett I. Barber and Willis Rudolph Yates and three sons, Donnie W. Yates, Gerald I. Yates, and Alan Steve Yates.
