James Alvin Newton
October 22, 1928 - May 3, 2006


Mr. James Alvin Newton, 77, of Colquitt, GA passed away May 3, 2006 at his residence. The visitation will be Thursday, May 4, 2006, from 6 til 8:00 P.M. at Colquitt Funeral Home. The funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2006, at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Calvin Arnold & Rev. W. H. Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Primitive Union Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association (Georgia Chapter) at 1512-1 Giilionville Rd., Albany, Ga 31707, Hospice of South West Georgia, 1323 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, Ga 39818, or your favorite charity.
Mr. Newton was born October 22, 1928 in Baker Co. He was a retired farmer, the owner for 27 years of the Newton-Hamrick Co., one of the founding directors of Peoples South Bank in Colquitt, and was owner of Green Circle Farms for 25 years. Mr. Newton was a Air Force Veteran and a member of Union Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Joy Newton of Colquitt; three daughters, Cathy Dillon (Ray) of Auburn, Al., Debra Whatley (Larry) of Colquitt, and Sherry Slocumb (Robert) of Macon; two sons, Al Newton Jr. of Albany and Ricky Houston (Donna) of Colquitt; one sister, Myra Fountain of Fitzgerald; one brother, Ferrell Newton of Arlington; and nine grandchildren, Michelle Puckett, Haley Dillon, Heather Gibson, Michael Houston, Shane Whatley, Ashley Slocumb, Shannon Slocumb, Natalie Slocumb, and Rob Slocumb.
