HERSHEL BULLARD
Hershel Bullard, 72, of Newton, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at Mitchell County Hospital in Camilla.
Funeral services will be held at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Church Cemetery in Baker County.
Pallbearers will be Michael Lanier Jr., Robert Hall, Jimmy Rhodes, Roland Weathersby, Kevin Coker, and Tommy Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Lanier, Sr., John Rooks, Charlie Burch, George Bush, Eddie Hopkins, and Jarrell Burch.
Mr. Bullard was born November 20, 1932 in Baker County. He was an Army veteran and of the Baptist faith. He was a contractor, painter, and Mobile Home Park proprietor. Mr. Bullard was the son of the late William Arthur Bullard and Allie West Bullard.
Survivors include his wife, Markeita Erwin Bullard of Newton; one son, Randall Shane Bullard of Newton; three daughters, Kathleen Palasota of Katy, TX, Vanessa Bullard of Newton, and Annette Knight of Colquitt; one niece, Lydia Burch; one nephew, Tommy Edwards of Macon; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Edmonds Bullard; one sister, Bessie Mae Edwards; and one brother-in-law, Lemuel Edwards.

C.C. “SHORTY” PHILLIPS
Mr. C. C. “Shorty” Phillips, 79, of Colquitt passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Phillips was born March 30, 1926, in Early County. He worked in law enforcement for a total of 43 years, retiring after 16 years of serving as sheriff of Miller County. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy. He was a member of Cooks Union Methodist Church, the Retired Sheriffs’ Association, former president of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Home, and a member of the Walter C. Dancer Lodge #115 and of the Albany Hasan Shrine Temple.
Graveside services was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, at Cooks Union Cemetery with the Rev. Kent Barwick officiating.
Visitation was held Tuesday, October 4 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Colquitt Funeral Home.
Kreg Freeman, Henry Harbin, John Maloy, Shannon Dunaway, Bobby Bankston, and R. D. Franklin will serve as pallbearers. The Miller County Sheriffs’ Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Dorothy Phillips of Colquitt; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney Phillips and Rita and Wallace Phillips and Vicki, all of Colquitt; one daughter, Kay Smith and son-in-law Randy of Colquitt; one sister, Beth Sanders and brother-in-law Jimmy of Barwick; one brother-in-law, Ralph Robinson of Panama City, FL; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by one son, Fletcher Phillips.
