Week of September 17, 2006

ALICE MARIE LOFTON

Mrs. Alice Marie Lofton, age 76, of Leary died Thursday, September 7, 2006.
Mrs. Lofton was born December 23, 1930, in Leary to the late Nathaniel Simmons and Annie Bell Douglas Simmons. She was a member of New Salem CME Church. She attended Albany State where she studied elementary education.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 16, at New Salem CME Church in Elmodel with the Rev. Henry Davis officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three children, Nathaniel Lofton, Rudi Bean, and Rhonda Nixon, Pittsburg, PA; two brothers, Dodge Simmons, Wintergarden, FL, and Sheppard Simmons, Elmodel; one sister, Gladys Dixon, Wintergarden, FL; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, two sisters and a brother.


Williams Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

BILLY AUBREY MIDDLETON

Mr. Billy Aubrey Middleton, age 72, of Fanning Springs, FL, died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL.
Mr. Middleton was born in Miller County to the late Carl and Stella Middleton on October 30, 1933. Before moving to Steinhatchee in 1983, Billy and his family lived in Albany. He owned Albany Lighting Fixtures. After selling his company in Albany, he moved to Dixie County and started Cross City Marine which he operated until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, Fanning Springs, FL; one son, Ray Middleton (Kaye), Cross City; one daughter, Lisa Smith (David), Rome; three sisters, Cleo Mock (.B.O.), Colquitt, Betty Thompson (Alan) Panama City, FL, Calisata Gilbert, Colquitt; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Stella Middleton and Bascom Middleton.


Goodings Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

ELTON EUGENE GOODRUM

Elton Eugene Goodrum, 66, of Thomasville, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15, at Laurel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor, the Rev. A. Bob Dixon and the Rev. Waymon R. Cleveland officiating.
Mr. Goodrum was born February 8, 1940, in Eua Gallie, FL. He was the son of the late Elton Shephard Goodrum and Dorothy Monger Goodrum. Mr. Goodrum owned Goodrum’s Floor Coverings and was most recently self-employed. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a former secretary and treasurer for the Sunday School Department for 12 years. He graduated from Thomasville High School and attended Valdosta State College where he was president of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Survivors include his wife, Helen Goodrum; one daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Michael Matthews of Tallahassee, FL; and one son, Richard Goodrum of Atlanta.


Allen & Allen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
