He spent most of his childhood in Colquitt, Ga. and graduated from Miller County High School. While attending Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia “Buddie” realized there was a great need in his small town for a dentist. He wanted to fulfill that need so he applied and was accepted to Atlanta Southern Dental College. He graduated there on February 10, 1943. In 1946 Atlanta Southern Dental College became now what is known as Emory University. On March 22, 1943, Buddy passed the Georgia Board of Denistry Exam and just a week later he passed the Florida Board of Denistry exam. Awaiting his arrival at home was a message from Uncle Sam, not congradulating him on his boards, but an urgent telegram to report to Camp Joseph T Robinson without delay. Thus he began his career with the Army as a First Lieutenant. While serving in the medical corps he stated, rather than restoring teeth, I restored bodies by sewing up many who became wounded. He was engaged in five major battles as a member of the AAA Battalion that landed on Omaha Beach D-Day plus 3 and ended as an Anti Tank battalion at the Battle of the Bulge. His service earned him the rank of Major, and he could have been a Lt Colonel had he accepted the Surgeon Generals offer to stay in Belgium after the war. He went on to become the owner-operator of Brooks Dental Clinic in Colquitt for 59 years. He was also a member of the Colquitt United Methodist Church. Dr. Brooks is survived by his three daughters & sons in-law, Becky & Russell Nash of Colquitt, Deede & Dr. Barry Barker of Albany, and Angie & Mickey Masters of Colquitt; two sisters, Jeannine W. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Brooks, in 2003, and one brother, Junior Brooks, in 1997.
